RCB Gets a Boost as Shepherd, Livingstone Rejoin Squad Before IPL 2025 Playoffs

As the IPL 2025 resumes for its final leg, Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans have something to cheer about. Key international players are back in the squad, strengthening the team’s chances ahead of the playoffs.

Romario Shepherd Returns, But for How Long?

West Indies all-rounder Romario Shepherd has rejoined the RCB squad in India. He was previously part of West Indies’ ODI series against Ireland and was also selected for the upcoming England tour starting May 29 — the same day the IPL playoffs begin.

However, Shepherd has now been replaced by Jediah Blades in the West Indies squad, which means he’ll stay with RCB until the end of the IPL season. It’s still unclear if he’ll be called back by West Indies cricket later.

Livingstone Back with RCB, Bethell to Miss Playoffs

Liam Livingstone has also rejoined RCB after being dropped from both England’s ODI and T20I squads. His return is a major boost for the team.

Meanwhile, Jacob Bethell, who replaced Phil Salt during his illness, is also back with the squad. But Bethell will only be available for RCB’s next two matches — against KKR and Sunrisers Hyderabad. He’s set to return to England before the match against Lucknow Super Giants (LSG).

Since the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) has only granted NOCs (No Objection Certificates) to its players till May 25, Bethell will miss the playoffs and won’t be part of England’s Test squad against Zimbabwe either.

What’s the Update on Hazlewood and Ngidi?

RCB is still waiting for updates on pacers Josh Hazlewood and Lungi Ngidi.

Hazlewood, who had a shoulder injury before the tournament break, was expected to miss the rest of the IPL had it not been suspended. His return is still doubtful.

Ngidi, who made his debut for RCB on May 3 against CSK, is in South Africa’s squad for the World Test Championship (WTC) final. South African players are expected to leave the IPL by May 25, so Ngidi may not be available for RCB’s last league match against LSG.

Phil Salt Set to Stay

Phil Salt, who missed a few matches due to illness, is now fit and expected to be available for the rest of IPL 2025. He’s only part of England’s T20I squad against West Indies, which starts after the IPL ends.

RCB in Strong Position

RCB currently has 16 points from 11 matches and is in a great position to qualify for the playoffs. With top players rejoining and a solid team combination, fans can expect an exciting finish to the season.
