Big Blow for LSG: Rishabh Pant Fined ₹30 Lakh for Slow Over Rate in IPL Clash Against RCB

Another Over-Rate Penalty Hits Lucknow Super Giants

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) faced a major setback after their recent IPL match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). Skipper Rishabh Pant has been slapped with a hefty fine of ₹30 lakh for maintaining a slow over rate during the game. The rest of the playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fees — whichever amount was lower.

Third Offence of the Season for LSG

This penalty marks LSG’s third over-rate offence this IPL season. According to the IPL’s Code of Conduct, repeat violations of the minimum over-rate rule lead to steeper fines. Since this was the third time, Pant faced the maximum fine, while the rest of the players were also held accountable.

In a media release, the IPL stated:

“As it was his team’s third offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offences, Rishabh Pant was fined ₹30 lakh. The rest of the Playing XI, including the Impact Player, were each individually fined ₹12 lakh or 50% of their match fees, whichever is lesser.”

Pant’s Heroics in Vain

Despite the penalty, Rishabh Pant had an exceptional performance with the bat. He played a stunning unbeaten knock of 118 runs off just 61 balls, trying to anchor the innings for his team. However, his efforts weren’t enough, as LSG lost the match by six wickets.

RCB Marches to Qualifier 1

With this win, Royal Challengers Bengaluru secured their place in Qualifier 1. They are now set to face Punjab Kings at Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Thursday, in a high-stakes clash.
